Countable and Uncountable Nouns

Countable Nouns

These are things you can count individually.

For example an apple.
You can count one apple, two apples, three apples, ...

It's the same with:

books, cars, cookies, glasses, friends, shoes, teachers, ...

Uncountable Nouns

These are things you cannot count individually.

For example:

water, salt, music, sand, money, ....

Many is used with plural countable nouns. We use many in questions and in negative sentences.
Much is used with uncountable nouns and it's used in questions and in negative sentences.

For example:

How many books do you have?
There aren't many glasses in the cupboard.
How much money do you have in your pocket?
Paul hasn't many toys at home.
How much homework do you have?
There isn't much cheese in the fridge.

  1. Hi Eva,

I've been watching your blog with attention and I really like it.

What has most caught my attention is its design. The background of the blog is very striking. You have rightly chosen image with English elements and the colors of the flag in line, too, with the title of the blog. You don't need to read the content to know that you are in a blog about English!
Moreover, it is a good idea to review the issue of countable and uncountable due to the fact that is a bit difficult.
Besides, you've chosen themes close to the lives of students (grocery, city...) so I'm sure you will achieve to capture the interest of children.

I look forward to reading more. Well done!

    kind regards,

    Paqui Fernández.
